Wiki Page: FTR Searches not picking up PDF files

      Applies To        Product(s): eB Server   Version(s): 15.04.01.325 and higher   Environment:  N/A   Area:  FTR   Subarea:  N/A   Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group                     Problem  FTR searches are working for all file types except PDF Solution  In order for the indexing service to read the contents of a PDF, a PDF iFilter needs to be installed onto the SQL Server (which is the machine running the Microsoft Indexing Service). However, some sites have reported problems using the  Adobe iFilter freeware when the repository where the FTR files are stored is a remote drive that connects to the database/indexing server via UNC/mapped drive.  The issue is also contingent on how the remote connection is made, and the filesystem type of the network drive. As a result, iFilter can process  PDFs that are on a local drive of the database/indexing server, but fails to index files that are in a repository on a different server.   You can try the following fixes/workarounds: 1. Give read access to everyone to your FTR repository. This might not work if you are not in a full windows environment, for example if repository is from a Non-windows storage (for example, some NAS run in UNIX or linux). 2. If workaround #1 does not work for you due to security concerns, alternative iFilters should be used when this situation arises.  FoxIT PDF ifilters seems to work well with different types of mapped/remote drives.     See Also Product TechNotes and FAQs External Links Bentley Technical Support KnowledgeBase Bentley LEARN Server Comments or Corrections?
