However, some sites have reported problems using the Adobe iFilter freeware when the repository where the FTR files are stored is a remote drive that connects to the database/indexing server via UNC/mapped drive. The issue is also contingent on how the remote connection is made, and the filesystem type of the network drive. As a result, iFilter can process PDFs that are on a local drive of the database/indexing server, but fails to index files that are in a repository on a different server. You can try the following fixes/workarounds: 1. Give read access to everyone to your FTR repository. This might not work if you are not in a full windows environment, for example if repository is from a Non-windows storage (for example, some NAS run in UNIX or linux). 2. Use The Ifilter distributed with Adobe 9 (Ifilter version 9 64 bits). Later versions of ifilter distributed by Adobe do not work with Windows Server 2003 File Services and Indexing Service that is the Microsoft technology used by eB FTR. 3. If workarounds #1 and #2 do not work for you due to security concerns or server environment constraints on using earlier ifilter versions , alternative iFilters should be used when this situation arises. FoxIT PDF ifilters seems to work well with different types of mapped/remote drives.
